Farewell from Kid Flicks

To the Kid Flicks Community,

It is with tremendous gratitude and pride that we announce that May 1, 2017 marks the final chapter of our non-profit organization.

When we founded Kid Flicks in 2002, our mission was to donate “movie libraries” of 100 films to every Children’s Hospital and Pediatric Department in the country. Thanks to the incredible support of our donors, we have donated 116,200 movies to hospitals in all fifty states and South Africa.

As technology has changed and many hospitals are now able to stream movies directly to patients’ rooms, we believe it is the perfect time for Kid Flicks to phase out. Although we currently have thousands of DVDs in our warehouse (which we will send to the many hospitals throughout the country that still would love to receive them), we are not going to be accepting new donations.

Kid Flicks began as a simple idea that blossomed into something much greater. For each of the past 15 years, we were able to help hundreds of thousands of children who were going through an experience that was scary, lonely, tedious, and sometimes painful. But we are proud of another result that we did not foresee when we began at the ages of 16 (Lexi), 14 (Romi), 11 (Marni) and 9 (Berni): we inspired young people across the country to make a difference. We are so grateful to the many kids who took it upon themselves to start their own movie drives, collecting DVDs at their schools, churches, temples, Brownie troops, birthday parties, and more.

Thank you to all of our donors and recipients for your generosity and support. We would like to express a special word of thanks to our parents, Bob and Denise Barta, for helping us every step of the way.

Sincerely,

Lexi, Romi, Marni & Berni Barta

Claire Maultsby has been helping us identify hospitals that would like to receive “movie libraries.” If you would like to learn how you can contribute to this endeavor, email us at kidflicks@aol.com.

Claire is an 11 year old from Rockingham, North Carolina. She is in the 6th grade at Rockingham Middle School where she is a member of the National Junior Beta Club and NC All-State Chorus. She enjoys singing, dancing, and spending time with her friends and family. She is currently the reigning Princess of America’s Preteen Miss North Carolina and will compete for the title of Preteen Princess of America this summer. Her passion to bring joy to the lives of kids during times of sickness began when her close friend was hospitalized. During her visits to the hospital, she grew concerned that many of the kids had nothing to do. This led her to reach out to Kid Flicks.
